Sweet Wrapper Skirt
My love for the festive skirt has rocketed this year, and I'm close to collapse when it comes to the Topshop Zig Zag Pelmet.
Having impulse purchased it, I was immediately drawn to the colour. Gold instantly says festivity, whether it be christmas or new year. And to this, I wore mine on both boxing and new years day. Evidently the 'zig zag' pattern has been used to emulate the traditional fair isle knit pattern; so this a perfect ensemble to wear if you aren't brave enough to pull out the christmas jumper this year.
Moreover, the metallised fibre (11% to be exact) will make you glitter in the light, and looks and feels just like a sweet wrapper. Can you get more in the christmas spirit?
I do have one little niggle with it though. I couldn't advise you ladies more to buy it in the size above. The teeny tiny shape is so Rosie H-W this season, however I did find the stitching to pull apart more easily than anticipated at the join, centre to the thighs. Never the less, the thin fabric is the loveliest weight for the winter month, what else but a thick winter jumper and leggings would be wearing underneath? Balance is key for comfort. The Pelmet Skirt is making life merrier.
Stella (McCartney) initially prepared us for the pelmet. Her fall 2012 showed the skirt in more tweedy and wool fabrics. The models looked effortlessly sophisticated, showing us that those braving to reveal the longitude of their pins would be exempt from creating a the ultimate faux pas this winter; more so if matched with the inevitable pair of black tights.
Mollie King flaunted her metallic topshop pelmet earlier in the year with a matching blouse, whilst I went for a contrast of black against gold. The cream colouring also saves some extra spending, completely appropriate to wear with the collared white blouse wardrobe staple.

Pre - Christmas Season Taffeta
Following my previous post, you fashion bunnies will be undoubtedly aware of my love for the taffeta midi; particularly for the christmas season. And here she is.
The Topshop ensemble is a staple for your wardrobe. The fabric's seriously light weight make for seriously easy wear, yet it is far from thin, so don't hold back ladies; this is the perfect midi to team with a thick jumper or other weather appropriate top. I've paired mine with some basic black cotton apparel.
Black is a sure palette for contrasting with the rich, almost sapphire blue. Topshop also stocked the midi in a royal purple, and a fabulous Chartreuse which are perfect for swapping the tights and black Gwenda's for a pair of Zara barely there's and pastel shade top. Tucked in, of course.
This is a look strictly for the evening, and so conservative that your Grandmother may even consider selling her prosthetic leg for. The co-ordinating clutch is admittedly, 'matchy matchy', but releases the intensity of the midi as being your stand out asset, propping you at the christmas party as the Harrods bauble every female is after. Too glam to give a damn.
Think 50's, because this trend has been inspired, taken and even plagiarised from the era. Throw on a printed t-shirt and a black cropped leather jacket and you're merely portraying Frenchie in Grease, taking you from Winter to Spring.
Coming in at £48 this midi is an absolute STEAL. Your money will also be handed back to you when you receive the many compliments I did from wearing it. It's adaptability to both casual and dressier top's and accessories also make it a day - night chameleon.

I feel feminine, I feel classy and most importantly I feel comfortable. The last of the midi are well and truly into the sales, could it BE a more justified purchase ladies?!

TO THE KNEE

I
was one of the many females to fall head over heels for the skirt. The
conservative length exuberating 1950’s swing and the polished high waist is the
ultimate statement, not forgetting lady like eloquence. In the summer, the
first wave showed midi’s in the classic bright white and pink, pairing
perfectly with a staple Breton - we all
have one of these lurking somewhere, surely. Women looked sailor chic and
perfectly fitting for a 50’s esque tennis shoot. Is a McQueen neckerchief too
far?

For
those of us who’s love for the midi could not just be packed up in the case of
summer cloves and shunned to the loft until next year, thanks Sir Phillip Green
we have the winter midi. Hoorah Horrah you may sing, but once you realise the
Taffeta fabrics in demure royally rich purple, golds turquoises, you will well
and truly dance around the changing room as though you were Rosie in an M&S
Christmas advert. What’s more, is that Topshop have even released a fully
fledged satin silk midi, proving every girl can be the duchess they’d always
dreamed to be this winter. Topshop initially executed theirs in mid-november,
with the pilot run of deep pink selling out within 24hours. The standard was
set, and outcame the wave of variations.
I happened to get my paws on one of these, and it is SO STOP STATEMENT that
only minimal black (specifically pointed courts) is needed to pair it. If that
isn’t enough persuasion, then here’s some more…
Christmas
tis the season to indulge in all of your sequin and glitter guilty pleasures
that just simply are unjustifiable throughout the spring/summer months. River
Island have simply rocketed to the top of the midi skirt trend fest, dressing
their high wasted midi’s in sequins; quite literally, an essential for standing
apart from the saturation of leather A-Line’s on the ice rink this winter. The
sequin midi, revealing every girls inner show girl since 2013.
So
ladies, are you a Betty or a Joan? It’s time to embrace femininity and classic style. Forget the 'frumpy dumpy' stigma on this A-Line; snap on your point courts, nip in your T and colour block your way into 50's film star fabulosity. Step out of the
whirlpool of leather and tartan and dance for the love of all that is merry and
taffeta this winter.

THINK PINK
It’s official. In amongst the sea of doubled breasted black coats, traditional Mac’s and inevitable duffle’s flocking the streets this month will you be no less than surprised to see a glowing burst of blossom pink from within the crowd. Never fear city goer, this is not the overly exuberant fashion slave once found in the art department; this is Fall 2013’s latest fashion glory, the pink coat.
Taking the catwalks of Fall 2013 into a bubblegum biosphere, audience’s were captivated back in February at Carven, the first of designers to transform coats from the dull and drab to a pink revolution. The Bugsy Coat, also seen at Melene Birger, enabled women to flaunt both trend and comfort in its thick wool and oversized design, but what’s more is that this has been the day anticipated by almost every female; a coat, that resembles the comfort and ease of my beloved dressing gown?! Undeniably, an essential to every girl’s wardrobe.
At Celine, we saw an embrace sophistication. Thinner and cashmere fabrics boasted by streamline cocoon tailoring. The pink coat is suitably fabulous for the workplace, and we thank Phoebe Philo for making the pink coat less of a one trick pony, to shining every woman’s inner Lady Penelope. What better way to break that glass ceiling than with a strike of Celine’s feminine pastel punch.
The pink coat has been inevitably transferred onto the highstreet market, with Topshop, Zara and H&M all conveying their own adaptations of the unexpected ensemble. You may well have come across the wide open collars, the midi length’s and full frontal fluff textures. However something that is exceptionally worth scowering the pages of Net-a-Porter for is the ¾ length sleeves that shone at Jill Sander. Raff Simmons relentlessly integrates a class 1960’s twist into many look’s for the designer, and the pink coat alike. With a round collar to really make you the fastest swimming salmon, Jill Sander arguably wins.

Now, fashion bunnies. Yes, winter is inevitably damp and wet. The pink coat screams impracticality, and definitely your mothers worst nightmare as a child. That, and the overwhelming danger of stains however (steer clear of the party host’s glass of red when donning this day – night piece) should absolutely, 100%, not stop you from nabbing this beauty for as little as £59 on the highstreet. If the fever of incorporating it into your wardrobe is also a worry, throw on this darling faux fur lapel from ASOS; a little blush goes a long way for the black duffle.
