I
was one of the many females to fall head over heels for the skirt. The
conservative length exuberating 1950’s swing and the polished high waist is the
ultimate statement, not forgetting lady like eloquence. In the summer, the
first wave showed midi’s in the classic bright white and pink, pairing
perfectly with a staple Breton - we all
have one of these lurking somewhere, surely. Women looked sailor chic and
perfectly fitting for a 50’s esque tennis shoot. Is a McQueen neckerchief too
far?

For
those of us who’s love for the midi could not just be packed up in the case of
summer cloves and shunned to the loft until next year, thanks Sir Phillip Green
we have the winter midi. Hoorah Horrah you may sing, but once you realise the
Taffeta fabrics in demure royally rich purple, golds turquoises, you will well
and truly dance around the changing room as though you were Rosie in an M&S
Christmas advert. What’s more, is that Topshop have even released a fully
fledged satin silk midi, proving every girl can be the duchess they’d always
dreamed to be this winter. Topshop initially executed theirs in mid-november,
with the pilot run of deep pink selling out within 24hours. The standard was
set, and outcame the wave of variations.
I happened to get my paws on one of these, and it is SO STOP STATEMENT that
only minimal black (specifically pointed courts) is needed to pair it. If that
isn’t enough persuasion, then here’s some more…
Christmas
tis the season to indulge in all of your sequin and glitter guilty pleasures
that just simply are unjustifiable throughout the spring/summer months. River
Island have simply rocketed to the top of the midi skirt trend fest, dressing
their high wasted midi’s in sequins; quite literally, an essential for standing
apart from the saturation of leather A-Line’s on the ice rink this winter. The
sequin midi, revealing every girls inner show girl since 2013.
So
ladies, are you a Betty or a Joan? It’s time to embrace femininity and classic style. Forget the 'frumpy dumpy' stigma on this A-Line; snap on your point courts, nip in your T and colour block your way into 50's film star fabulosity. Step out of the
whirlpool of leather and tartan and dance for the love of all that is merry and
taffeta this winter.
